When to go:
Spring (April-June) /Autumn (September – November) : Spring and Autumn are probably the best times of the year to visit the Italian cities. It will be warm but not too hot, it is generally sunny and prices should be lower than in summer. Average temperature: 11°C – 23°C
Summer (July – August): Unless you want to go to the seaside, going to Italy in summer can be an unpleasant experience especially for tourists coming from colder countries. Milan, Florence and Venice can be extremely hot in summer while Rome gets cooler at night thanks to the “ponentino” (cold fresh wind). Do you want to go to Italy in summer but you don’t know where? Puglia, Calabria, Sicilia and Sardegna should be on your list but be aware that temperatures can reach up to 40° in certain areas! Average temperature: 20°C – 30°C
Winter (December – March): Winter is generally quite mild in the south/centre of Italy but it is cold in the north. For a city break, you should aim to go to Rome or south of it, while for winter sports the Alps are the main destinations! Average temperature: 3°C – 13°C
